1. What do I do if my
laptop is lost or stolen?
The teacher must file a report with the police and obtain a
copy of the police report. An Equipment Replacement Form
available from the
Risk Management web site must be downloaded, completed and
sent with the police report to Sandra Elliot, Risk Management
Department, via interoffice mail.

2. What should I do if I am
leaving the employment of CCSD?
The Dell and Apple laptops are assigned and issued to
specific teachers and accounted for on the inventory of each
teacher's work site. As teachers transfer locations and take
their laptops with them, the Property Control system will be
updated with this information from Human Resources. Currently,
teachers that have been assigned laptops and are leaving the
employment of CCSD must turn in their laptops so they can be
stored in a central location for reassignment later. The laptop
should be returned in good condition, with the case, power cord
and internet cable to your school's administration.

printer at home?
Both the Dell D620 and the Apple iBook have USB ports. In most
cases, since many print drivers are already installed, you’ll
just have to plug your printer’s USB cable in to the USB port on
your laptop, and then follow the directions given to you on your
Dell Quick Reference Card to complete the install. For your
iBook, directions from Apple are on the following link:
http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/connect/2/

It may be possible to purchase an adapter. Take the printer

adaptor for the cable so that it will connect to a USB port. You
may purchase these with your personal funds and use them;
however, it will be a non-reimbursable expense.

Network/Passwords
15. Why can’t I connect to the
network at school?
On your Dell, make certain you are logging in using your “badge
ID.stf.” and your network password. On your iBook, check that
your selected location is CCSD (click on the blue Apple in the
top left corner/location/CCSD Network). If you can’t remember
your network password, you’ll need to call in a work order so
that the Customer Care Center (770-426-3330) will reset your
password.
(Top)
16. Can I log in to the
network if I’m not at my own school?

included in your laptop bag.

19. Why can’t I just save
files to my desktop or My Documents & use them that way?
The operating system on your laptop is Windows XP, which
remembers each user’s files and system preferences.
As a school user, when you log in using your badgeID.stf.,
Windows XP remembers where you’ve saved your files, how your
desktop looks, etc.
But when you log in as home user, Windows XP recognizes you as
an entirely different user and won’t give you access to your
school user’s desktop or files.
(Top)
20. What is the main
difference between the school user and the home user?
- The school user has access to shared resources on the
Cobb County network (such as printers and applications), and
to individual space on a county server (your “home
directory”, which is backed up each day).
Furthermore, Internet service is provided for the school
user.
- The home user cannot access any county network
resources, and only has access to the Internet if s/he has a
personal account with an Internet Service Provider. In
addition, the home user must manually backup files, using a
storage device such as a flash drive, external hard drive,
or a CD.
