The competition started with 17 schools. Barber came into the championship series as #1 out of the 8 teams that made it to the championship series (never has this occurred in our four years of participating in the bowl).
After three+ months of learning 500+ facts and competing in thirteen games throughout three Saturdays, WE WON 1ST PLACE in Kennesaw Parks & Recreation's Black History Bowl!!!

As a proud HBCU graduate and lover of history, participating in this event every year is truly something I look forward to and am grateful for. This event provides an opportunity for ALL students to learn information they wouldn't otherwise get until they went to college and chose to take certain classes. This early exposure makes all the difference. This year, our motto is, "Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships." Our team has exemplified this in every round. The Black History Bowl has impacted my life. I have learned so much about historical black figures and the amazing things they have accomplished. Studying these facts taught me that you can be and do anything you want. Harriet Tubman's example of risking her life to free many slaves helped me to learn that it is important to keep believing and to continue to work hard because the effect is much greater than you think. -Kiva
