Principal's Message

r

Good afternoon, Spartan Families,

Elective registration for the 2024-2025 school year will begin this week. It is important for all students to make informed decisions about their course selections for the year. The schedule is created, and class section needs identified based on the course requests submitted during this registration window. Requests for changes will not be honored in the fall.  Students are expected to keep their initial course selections. Students received a copy of the Elective Registration Worksheet on Friday, February 2 during Advisement, as well as a copy of their transcript. To register for electives, students will select eight (8) elective courses in order of preference. Please review selections with your student. Keep in mind students can be placed in any of their (8) elective options.

Registration for academic (core) classes will be held February 5 – February 9. Teachers will speak with students about their recommended academic core placements. Each content area has specific placement requirements, including Honors and Advanced Placement courses. Students and parents who disagree with the teachers recommended placement should speak with the teacher for additional information. A waiver will be available in the spring.

Information about tickets for graduation may be found below in the senior section of the newsletter.

All Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to check the information in the Campbell News below for the Junior/Senior Prom.

Parents are reminded that students should not be dropped off before 7:30 AM unless it has been requested by a teacher or coach and they will remain with that adult. Students are also expected to leave the building no later than 4 PM unless they are under the supervision of a teacher or coach.

Best regards,
Dr. Watkins

Campbell News

As we begin the registration process for the 2024-2025 school year, Campbell students in grades 9-11 that are working towards meeting the criteria to be eligible for the Campbell AP Scholars Program (CAPS) should consider the CAPS criteria and requirements when reviewing their core/academic classes and the electives chosen for next school year.

Please review the CAPS Criteria & Requirements: Course Registration Helpful Tips to ensure that you and your student are selecting the classes that will allow them to continue progressing towards completion of this advanced learning program.  Dr. Dorrough will be in the cafeteria each morning during February to answer questions about academic and elective courses.  Per the information shared by Ms. Andrews, there will be NO schedule changes next year if a student does not select the courses necessary to meet the CAPS criteria/requirements."

Georgia Parent Survey
https://gshs.gadoe.org/parents
Parents/Guardians, please complete the survey above. All parents throughout the state are being asked to complete this survey. We would like to have at least 200 parents complete the survey by March 1.

Attention Freshman Parents: Is your student interested in being an entrepreneur? We encourage all future entrepreneurs to participate in the EPIC program. This is a program that allows students to focus on the importance of marketing and language arts skills in a yearlong class. Students get to build a business, receive one-on-one coaching with an entrepreneur and participate in a shark tank competition. An EPICS flyer is attached below.

There is an End of Course flyer below to inform parents and students about the EOCs occurring later on this semester. If you have any questions, please contact Antwane.Nelson@cobbk12.org

Additionally, there is an AP Exam registration flyer in the attachments below. If you have questions, please contact John. Armour@cobbk12.org

Campbell IB News

Congratulations to the 8th graders who were offered acceptance to the Campbell IB Diploma Program on Friday.

Thank you to the IB Booster Club, parent and student volunteers, and our amazing IB faculty for making Sunday's Showcase a true celebration.

9th grade families: Rising 10th advisement is this week. Carefully read the details on the Signup Genius:

Students will need to review this document before their appointment: 10th Grade Course Options 24-25.pdf

10th grade - Questions about SAT/ACT. See the notes from our IB Insights (sent via Remind last semester). Advisement for selecting IB courses will be in the beginning of March. Information to come.

11th grade - Your students will begin IB Language Orals this week, so the nerves are likely high. Remind them to take their teacher's lead on how to prepare. They're going to be fine.

12th grade - This is the tough part - keeping the focus on school and finishing strong, even when many have been accepted to college. Most students are doing great, but some students are still behind on the student-led components for their IB Diploma- the IAs and Extended Essay (deadlines are in Managebac). These components are required for students to sit for exams and potentially receive their IB Diploma/course credit. Students can show you their progress and deadlines in Managebac.

Final Home Basketball game reminder- Parents are asked to remind students that bookbags are not allowed in the gym.

Congratulations to our Science team for placing 4th in the Science Bowl Regionals yesterday!
Campbell HS had 2 students place on the weekend of Jan. 27th-28th at the North Central Technology Competition 2024. The NCTC is part of the GASTC, which emphasizes the use of digital technology in project-based learning. All first place winners will advance to the state competition in March.

Please help congratulate Campbell's Ethics Bowl teams. They came in 1st and 2nd in the West Georgia High School Ethics bowl considering some of the most consequential issues of our time- nuclear deterrence, artificial intelligence, the role of honesty in medical ethics- and they did it all with brilliance and heart.

Here at Campbell Theatre, we believe that the best way for students to learn about theatre is to see it and do it! So, we have three field trips this semester that are open to ALL students even if they aren't in theatre! Furlough’s Paradise 2/29 - (10th - 12th grade ONLY)
