Eighth-grade social studies teacher Heather Skeans has been named the 2025-26 DMS Teacher of the Year!
Heather Skeans has a genuine and infectious positivity and is dedicated to helping her students. She has a broad instructional background, including remedial reading and special education. This experience allows her to provide differentiated instruction for all learners. She is a natural leader, acting as a team leader and social studies coordinator. Mrs. Skeans has served on Durham’s PBIS and Leadership Teams for several years. This year, she has also taken on the Durham yearbook with fervor and excitement and is participating in the CCSD Teacher Leader Academy, devoting countless hours to honing her craft as a collaborative partner and teacher leader.
