In January, 1966, the Floyd building was completed and all 900 students moved into their new school. During the next six years, under the leadership of Floyd’s Very first Principal T. J. Hatcher, Floyd grew to a 1500 student capacity, utilizing 14 portable classrooms to accommodate the overflow of students. A U.S. Army Medical Corp. Veteran of WWII, a graduate of UGA, Mr. Hatcher taught at South Cobb High School from 1952 until 1959 when he became Principal of Mableton Elementary School. In 1965 he was the founding Principal of Floyd Junior High. The theater that we are in now is dedicated to his memory. I know something about being the first to do something so I know that as the 1st Principal of Floyd , Mr. Hatcher had to have strong leadership and courage to start a school that would last for another 57 years.

In honor of Mr. TJ Hatcher, our Founding Principal of Floyd Middle School, the Garnett House shall be name the Hatcher House at Floyd.  The House of Hatcher will represent Leadership & Courage.
