Mr. James Witherspoon started Teaching in 1968.  When he joined the Floyd Staff, he was the director of Bands for Floyd Middle, he was also the first African American to join the Floyd staff post Integration. Therefore integrating the staff of Floyd. Over the many years that he served as Band Director, Mr. Witherspoon helped countless students discover their passion for music, their musical talents and their creativity.  He created bands which were the pride of Floyd middle. This example of excellence hangs in our current Band room in the form of a vinyl album produced of Floyd Musicians. 1969 Sound of Floyd Album.  Mr. Witherspoon taught for 36 years. 

In honor of Mr. Witherspoon, the Violet House shall be named the Witherspoon House at Floyd.  The House of Witherspoon will represent Talents & Creativity.
