At Pine Mountain, the goal centers on building a school where academic excellence and strong personal character go hand in hand. A recent evaluation of the 2026 Cognia Stakeholder Survey data highlights outstanding operational successes alongside a clear opportunity to elevate school culture through a new student-led initiative.

This annual survey gives students, parents, and staff an anonymous voice to highlight school strengths and identify areas for improvement. The 2026 results show incredible institutional growth and introduce an exciting project designed to shape a more positive peer culture.

Celebrating School Successes

Thanks to the hard work of educators, families, and students, Pine Mountain achieved high marks across several key areas in 2026:

  • Surge in Teacher Satisfaction: The overall staff satisfaction score rose to an excellent 4.33 out of 5.00. This was driven by major single-year gains in sufficient classroom resources (4.30) and protected teaching time with fewer interruptions (4.33).
  • Unified Mission Clarity: The school's focus on student success was voted the #1 highest area by both staff (4.66) and parents (4.38). Students strongly validated this by ranking high teacher expectations as their absolute #1 top score (4.00).
  • Strong Infrastructure and Activities: Staff rated campus safety at a phenomenal 4.61, while parents scored facility support at 4.31. Robust student activity offerings also rated highly among both students (3.92) and parents (4.35).

Moving From a Secure Building to a Vibrant Culture

While parents and staff view school safety and building upkeep as premier strengths, student data provides an honest look at daily social interactions. Students reported that mutual respect in shared spaces like hallways and cafeterias is an area that still can be improved:

  • Students treating adults with respect: 2.95
  • Students treating each other with respect: 2.86
  • Students helping each other even if they are not friends: 2.83
  • Students respecting the property of others: 2.59

To bridge this gap, the school is challenging the student body to actively demonstrate the school's CLIMB core values in their daily interactions: Commitment to mutual respect; Leadership through serving others; Integrity when no one is watching; Mindfulness of how actions affect peers; and Balance between hard schoolwork and mutual support.

The Game Plan: The Principal’s Student Advisory Council (PSAC)

To give student leaders true ownership over campus culture, Pine Mountain is launching The Principal’s Student Advisory Council (PSAC) for the upcoming school year. This council establishes a direct pipeline for student voice to actively shape school policy and climate.

  • Council Structure: The PSAC will consist of the presidents of all student clubs and organizations on campus, ensuring every student interest group has a seat at the table. The council will be governed by elected Student Council officers (President as Chair, Vice-President as Vice-Chair, and Secretary as Secretary).
  • Expanding Student Representation: Beyond club leadership, each homeroom will select a representative to meet monthly with the PSAC officers and Dr. Nelson, ensuring a wide variety of student voices are heard directly.
  • Accountability Workflow: Two weeks prior to the general assembly, the three Student Council executive officers will meet with the Principal, advisors, and club sponsors at 8:15 AM on Fridays to co-author a formal agenda. Once a month, the full PSAC will meet with the Principal during lunch to collaborate on campus initiatives and review CLIMB values.
  • Leadership Skill Development: To ensure sustainable change, Dr. Nelson will use expertise as a Maxwell Leadership Certified Team Member and a certified youth and family coach to personally equip elected student officers and train club presidents to run their respective meetings more effectively.

By actively equipping student leaders with executive skills and creating direct feedback channels for homeroom representatives, Pine Mountain is moving to engage more students than ever before—transforming their feedback into true ownership of their school.
