SCHS Hall of Fame
PURPOSE
The purpose of the SCHS Hall of Fame is to honor the student-athletes, coaches, teams, and administrators whose athletic accomplishments and contributions have brought an abundance of pride and distinction to South Cobb High School and its community. In addition to their athletic accomplishments, inductees must demonstrate strong academic success and personal character. The inductees should have characteristics that identify himself or herself as a positive role model for the your of our community, in addition to excelling in his/her athletic event(s). We believe that the SCHS Hall of Fame will encourage current students-athletes to embrace the many opportunities available to them through their dedication to scholarship and athletic accomplishments.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The nine person selection committee will consist of the Principal, Athletic Director, two classroom teacher, two head coaches, one former SCHS staff member, and two community members. Nominations will be received from former and current members of the SCHS staff. Any former student-athletes, coaches, administrators, teams, or community members who excelled n or contributed to a GHSA sanctioned sporting event at SCHS are eligible for nomination.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
To be eligible, a student must be an alumnus of SCHS and have graduated a minimum of four (4) years prior to his/her nomination.
To be eligible, a coach or administrator must have retired or left SCHS a minimum of two (2) years prior to his/her nomination.
To be eligible, every member of a team should have graduated a minimum of two (2) years prior to his/her nomination.
A community member can be eligible for nomination at any time.
All student-athlete nominees to the SCHS Hall of Fame should meet three (3) of the following criteria:
- Student-Athlete received a Division 1 or other significant college athletic scholarship.
- Student-Athlete earned All-State Honors from the AJC, Coaches Group, or another approved organization as determined by the committee.
- Student-Athlete earned five (5) or more Varsity Letters during his/her four years at SCHS.
- Student-Athlete graduated with a 3.5 or higher Grade Point Average (GPA).
- Student-Athlete received player of the year award in his/her sport(s) from the MDJ, AJC, Coaches Group, or other approved organization as determined by the committee.
- Student-Athlete received an additional award or recognition on a state or national level by an approved organization as determined by the committee. (e.g., Academic All-American, All-American, National Team, Jr. National team, etc.)
- Student-Athlete earned All-Region, All Metro, or All-County Honors from the MDJ, AJC, Coaches Group, or other approved organization as determined by the committee.
- Student-Athlete made a significant contribution to SCHS athletics and the community.
All Coach or Administrator nominees to the SCHS Hall of Fame should meet one (1) of the following criteria:
- Coach or Administrator coached and individual or team who was recognized as State Champion.
- Coach or Administrator earned Coach of the Year Honors from the MDJ, AJC, Coaches Group , or other approved organization as determined by the committee.
- Coach or Administrator coached in a state All-Star game.
- Coach or Administrator earned Athletic Director of the Year honors from the county or region athletic directors.
- Coach or Administrator made significant contribution to one or more SCHS athletic department.
All team nominees to the SCHS Hall of Fame should meet the following criterion:
- Won and recognized as a state championship in a GHSA sanctioned athletic event.
All community member nominees to the SCHS Hall of Fame should meet the following criterion:
- Made a significant contribution to one or more SCHS athletic program.
Character Clause
Any student-athlete nominated for the SCHS Hall of Fame must have proven himself or herself to have the highest level of character and personal integrity. Any student-athlete nominated based on the above criteria that fall short in this area will not be allowed into the SCHS Hall of Fame as determined by the committee. Likewise, a student-athlete may be revoked from the Wall of Champions based on any character issues as determined by the committee.
TIMELINE
A maximum of seven honorees will be inducted into the SCHS Hall of Fame each year. All nominees for the SCHS Hall of Fame must be submitted to the Athletic Director (using the official nomination form) by March 1st to be considered for induction that Fall. The Hall of Fame inductees for each year will be introduced at a home football game. A formal banquet will be held in the inductee's honor the following morning at 10:00 am in the SCHS cafeteria.
