Cobb Schools’ Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of male and female student-athletes performing at high levels in their sport, classroom, and school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.

This week’s winners are seniors from Kennesaw Mountain and Wheeler. Ivana Coker plays volleyball for the Mustangs, and Josiah Allen plays football for the Wildcats.

Ivana Coker, Volleyball, Kennesaw Mountain

Between club teams and KMHS, Ivana plays volleyball year-round and has for nearly eight years. She contributed greatly to the Mustangs' undefeated region record this season and recorded her 1000th career assist in a recent win over East Paulding. She maintains a 3.8 GPA while juggling work, studying, and playing. She has verbally committed to continuing her academic and athletic career at UNC Pembroke.

"Ivana is an exemplary representative of our team. She is a four-year varsity starter and a second-year captain. She is a highly respected leader within our program and school community. The team strives to match her energy and wholeheartedly trusts her talents. Ivana often receives compliments from opposing coaches and referees for her ability to motivate and drive our team," said Mustang Head Coach Heather Prochaska.

"Her 1000 career assists was achieved on Senior Night and serves as a perfect example of the legacy she will leave behind. In addition, she holds herself and her teammates accountable for the program's academic and discipline expectations. Her teammates look up to her as an example of being a well-rounded student-athlete. When this is published, it will be nearing Ivana's 18th birthday on October 20. Happy Birthday, Ivana! Your team and coaches love you!" Coach Prochaska said proudly.

Josiah Allen, Football, Wheeler

In each of the last three seasons, Josiah has rushed for over 1000 yards! In a recent upset over Cherokee, he had 26 carries for 256 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown. Josiah has been with the Wheeler football program since he was in second grade. He was part of both the Baby Cats and the Junior Cats and earned recognition as an FBU All-American. He also runs track for Wheeler on their state championship team.

"Josiah’s impact on our school and program extends far beyond the football field," said Wildcat Head Coach Bryan Love. "He is an outstanding student, maintaining a 4.1 GPA, and is recognized as a leader with exemplary character throughout our school community. He is currently committed to Cornell University on a football scholarship, which is a testament to his hard work and dedication on and off the field."

"He has developed into a strong leader at Wheeler. He welcomes students at local elementary schools and helps to guide his teammates during stadium clean-up events. His classmates and teammates admire him not only for his accomplishments but also for his character. He has an approachable personality that naturally draws people in. Josiah is a true definition of a Wheeler Wildcat!" said Coach Love about his Athlete of the Week.
