Cobb 7A Soccer Impressive in First Round of State Playoffs

Ten of Cobb's 7A soccer teams participated in the first round of GHSA state playoffs earlier this week. Nine of the ten will play again next week in the second round.
The Campbell Spartans hosted two games against Grayson this week. The Spartan boys beat the Rams 5-1 and the girls won in a 6-0 shutout. The boys will host West Forsyth on Tuesday (4/19) in the second round. In their next game, the Region 2 champ Spartan ladies will host Peachtree Ridge on Monday (4/18).
Harrison also hosted two home games this week. The boys team beat Lowndes 11-1 and the girls blanked Tift County, 10-0. The boys will stay home next week, hosting Dunwoody on Tuesday, while the Hoya ladies will travel to Region 5 champ Alpharetta on Monday.
Hillgrove played both of their first round games on the road. The Hawk boys traveled to Colquitt County, where they shutout the home team favorites 7-0. They will travel again next week to play Region 7 champ Meadowcreek on Tuesday. The Hillgrove ladies made the long trip southeast to Camden County, where they knocked off the Wildcats to advance, 2-0. Maya Cramer notched two assists in the game, while goals were scored by Coco Carleton in the first half and Yasmin Zavala in the second. The Lady Hawks will travel again for their second round game on Monday facing Region 7 champ Dunwoody.
Walton hosted two home games in Raider Valley. The boys ended Camden County's season with a 5-0 win, while the Raider ladies beat Colquitt County big, 10-0. The Region 3 champ Lady Raiders have won 11 of their last 12 games and have outscored opponents 45-4. The win was their 10th shutout of the season. Katie Jamison scored 4 goals and Brooke Dean earned three assists. Hanna Ellsworth, Molly Chapman, Nicole Lazarakis, Emma Graham, Mackenna Jenkins, and Becca Paden scored the other six goals. Both teams will face Roswell in the second round. The Raider boys will travel to the Region 5 champ on Tuesday, and the ladies will host on Monday.

The Region 2 champ Pebblebrook boys hosted South Gwinnett for their first round match. The Falcons brought a victory for their home fans with a close 2-1 win to improve their overall record to 16-2-1. The Falcons will host again next week, this time against Peachtree Ridge on Tuesday.
The only first round 7A loss for Cobb came at the hands of the Brookwood Broncos over the McEachern Girls. Brookwood is a powerhouse program ranked 26th in the state and 65th nationally. The Region 4 champ Broncos will host Forsyth Central in their second round match.
