Cobb Schools' Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of a male and a female student-athlete that perform at high levels in their sport, in the classroom, and in their school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.

This week's AOW winners are basketball players from Campbell and Wheeler.

Brooke Suttle, Basketball, Campbell

With over 1000 career points and counting, Brooke was recently recognized as one of the Top 10 senior players in the state by the AJC. She led the Lady Spartans in scoring in recent region wins over Westlake (17 points, 12 rebounds, 7 steals) and East Coweta (19 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 5 assists). She was selected MVP of the 2023 Campbell Holiday Tournament as well as Team MVP last season. She is also exceptional in the classroom with a 4.318 GPA. She is headed to the Ivy League next year as a player and student at the University of Pennsylvania.

"Brooke brings a ray of light to Campbell," said Spartan Athletic Director James Thigpen. "She is always respectful, and very humble considering her athletic abilities and accomplishments. She inspires others around her to be great."

"She is a phenomenal student athlete, and we are very fortunate to have her in our program," said Campbell Head Coach Randy McClure. "Brooke is highly thought of by her peers and her teachers. She is a true leader who has a sincere desire to have all of her teammates succeed."

"In our program we talk about adding value by having great energy, great effort, and have a great attitude. Brooke Suttle is the embodiment of all of those qualities and so much more. She is another one in a long line of great Campbell Lady Spartan players and a tremendous difference maker and ambassador for our program," Coach McClure concluded about his Athlete of the Week.

Amare James, Basketball, Wheeler

Only a sophomore, Amare is contributing big numbers to the Wildcats' quest to repeat as 7A state champs. He scored 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds against Kennesaw Mountain, 19 points and 6 rebounds against Norcross, and 11 points and 5 rebounds against Cherokee. He is also shooting 52% from outside the arc. He is an excellent student and loved by his teammates for his positive attitude and fun sense of humor.

"Amare has the potential to be a big-time athlete because of his hard work and dedication to the game," said his coach Larry Thompson. "He is learning to compete on and off the floor and will get only better as he matures. If he continues to develop, he will be one of the names to remember when it comes to Wheeler basketball."

Wheeler Athletic Director Brittny Jones agrees. "His energy, positivity, and passion for the game radiates in a way that is contagious for his entire team. Amare is beloved by his teammates and our students at Wheeler! He is kind, helpful, and motivated to be just as good of a student as he is a basketball player," AD Jones said proudly.
