Hawk Lacrosse Player and Falcon Runner Win AOW Recognition
Cobb Schools’ Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of male and female student-athletes performing at high levels in their sport, in the classroom, and in their school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.
This week’s AOW winners are a Lacrosse player from Hillgrove and a Track runner from Pebblebrook.
Marleigh Belinfanti, Hillgrove, Lacrosse
With 46 goals so far this season, Marleigh is a foundational piece of the Lady Hawks lacrosse team. When she's not scoring goals herself, she is assisting her teammates with scoring and causing turnovers on defense. The Area 3 leading Hawks are currently ranked fifth in 7A and have a couple of games left in the regular season. The Lady Hawks will need Marleigh's best play with tough matchups against Cambridge and their final game against Area 2-7A rival North Paulding.
"Marleigh is the root of this team," said her coach Keon Humphries. "Almost everything grows from her. She is well-liked by her peers and she doesn’t know a stranger. If you are anywhere in her presence, you feel the positive energy, the spirit, and the love for life and all. She leads by example!"
"She has been playing lacrosse since 5th grade and is a USA Lacrosse All-American, Georgia All-State, and Cobb County First Team selectee. She is a coach's dream player. Who needs coffee or sunshine when you’ve got Marleigh!" concluded Coach Humphries with a smile.
"Marleigh is a great student leader that excels academically and always offers a helping hand to others," agreed Hillgrove Athletic Director Jonathan Brown. "She excels in her honors courses and carries a 4.0 GPA. She is very deserving of this honor we are so proud of her."
Marcus Robinson, Pebblebrook, Track & Field
Right before Spring Break, Marcus became the Cobb County Boy's 400m Champion and placed third in the 100m. He broke the Pebblebrook school record with a 48.9-second 400m run! As a senior, he helps lead the Falcon Track team and consistently motivates and shares positive feedback with teammates.
"Marcus 'Speedy' Robinson has been an amazing track athlete for the last three years," said his coach Dmitri Bryant. "He is one of the hardest working athletes I’ve had the privilege to coach. Every season, he has improved in the 100m, 200m and is now the school record holder in the 400m."
"He always has a positive attitude and is very respectful and mannered. Marcus will be a great addition to any track and field program when he attends college. He has bright future ahead of him and all the coaches are so very proud of him. He has trained hard for his success this season and deserves this recognition," said Coach Bryant about his Athlete of the Week.
