Cobb Schools’ Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of male and female student-athletes performing at high levels in their sport, in the classroom, and in their school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.

This week’s winners are a baseball player from Kell and a distance runner from South Cobb.

Caden Marcos, Kell, Baseball

The Longhorns are currently on their deepest postseason run in nearly twenty years, thanks in part to clutch play from senior Caden Marcos. He went 3 for 5 in the first round series against Cass, with three stolen bases, a Grand Slam, 4 RBIs, and a triple. His bat was also instrumental in the Longhorn's tie-breaking win over Greenbrier to advance to the Final Four. Kell plays Loganville and is only two opponents away from its first state title.

"Caden is the embodiment of a true leader," said his coach Todd Harris. "He puts the team's success above all else and is always willing to make sacrifices for the greater good. His work ethic is unparalleled. He puts in the extra hours throughout the year, training hard in the off-season to further develop his skills and abilities. He brings incredible passion and determination to every game, constantly striving to play the right way."

"He is also a member of Sources of Strength and excels in the classroom. Caden is committed to continuing his baseball and educational journey at the prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology. His humility and unwavering moral compass make him a truly special young man. His ability to overcome challenges and setbacks sets him apart from his peers. He's a hidden gem, a true asset to our team and our school community," Coach Harris said proudly.

Oluwatosin Awoleye, South Cobb, Track

A repeat AOW winner, Oluwatosin is continuing her dominance on the track in the 400 and 800 meter. She recently won the region championship for both events. She won the 800 meter with a margin of over 11 seconds between her and 2nd place! She is currently ranked #1 in Georgia for the 800 meter and holds the second fastest 800 time in state history. Tosin is also a great student; she has earned a 3.9 GPA in her academic work.

"Tosin is a great athlete and is so humble and supportive of others, respectful, hard-working, and always willing to give 200% every day," said her coach Andrele Kelly. "She brings laughter and much encouragement to the team and coaches. She works hard in her academics and pushes her teammates to do the same. She manages to balance being an A student, athletics, leadership, and her own hobbies with ease and she is just a great person to know. Tosin is easy to talk to, very relatable, and we are honored and privileged to have her on the team!"

South Cobb Athletic Director Ormond Moore agrees with Coach Kelly. "Tosin is synonymous with South Cobb," he said. "When I became AD I knew her name before I knew her. She is a guiding light to other students to chase their dreams."
