Gabby Ertle wins special scholarship

June 4, 2026 — Resilience, determination, and a positive spirit helped Kennesaw Mountain High School (KMHS) 2026 graduate Gabriella (Gabby) Ertle navigate one of life's most difficult challenges. Those qualities recently earned Gabby statewide recognition as one of only two recipients of the 2026 Dreams of Lois Scholarship, an award honoring student-athletes who have persevered through the loss of a family member while making a positive impact on their schools and communities.

A one-time swimmer at KMHS, Gabby dedicated her joyful personality to the Mustangs’ tennis program, serving as the girls team manager.

Gabby’s influence wasn’t confined to the tennis court.

“Despite facing personal tragedy with the loss of her father, Gabby has dedicated her high school career to bringing joy to others,” noted a social media post from Positive Athlete, a partner in the Dreams of Lois Scholarship. “From raising funds for ‘Shop with a Mustang’ to volunteering at Cobb County’s Special Needs Dance, Gabby leads with absolute integrity and kindness, and we are so proud to celebrate her remarkable character!”

Gabby’s integrity, kindness, and character were also evident in her participation in several student organizations at KMHS, including the American Sign Language club, Future Healthcare Leaders of America, and the school’s Mane Link student government club that emphasizes servant leadership. Gabby even founded the 4Girls club at Kennesaw Mountain to help female students learn life skills.

In a ceremony at the Georgia State Capitol, hosted by Positive Athlete to recognize high-character student-athletes in each sport category, two Cobb Schools enjoyed honorees. Later that evening, Dreams of Lois, Inc., presented Gabby with a $1,000 scholarship. She plans to use the scholarship in her pursuit of a biology degree with the intent of becoming a pediatrician.

Congratulations, Gabby!
