What's up, Bucs! Homecoming voting is upon us, and throughout this season of high school, it is filled with excitement, tradition and fun! We will kick it off with football games, spirit week and a homecoming dance to commence it. For now, I will explain what is to come and what to expect for the voting aspect in Allatoona.

Homecoming nominating took place this week! Homecoming court voting is a common tradition amongst many high schools in our area. The court consists of voting for a king and queen for seniors, and princes and princesses for all other levels. These students should be represented based on diversity, interest, and liking. Being nominated for homecoming court is appreciated amongst the student body and recognizes the respect of peers around you. This nomination will go on until the last week of August. The winners will be announced homecoming weekend (September 6th and 7th).

As for thoughts on homecoming voting, many students have their individual opinions that should be addressed. According to staff and students, they have said that the voting process can be biased due to people only choosing who they think is the most attractive, popular or to their own likeness. Voting should not be based on popularity or the number of friends that they might have, but what they represent best. Students who are involved in helping others, important clubs and sports, should be nominated to show their school spirit. Remember when you cast your vote to be open minded to the people who show exceptional characteristics to represent our school through voting, and not because of what you’ve heard from the grapevine. Students are looking for a king and queen who show kindness, love and compassion!

You can receive a QR code for voting from any teacher or staff member on August 20th and August 26th. You are to select your grade, then select a boy and girl to be counted for your grade. You only get to do it once each week, so make it count!
