Brief History
Allatoona High School opened in the fall of 2008, making it the newest high school in the Cobb County School District. It was named after the nearby Lake Allatoona. The school welcomed its first full cohort of students for the 2008–2009 school year and quickly established itself as a competitive institution both academically and athletically.
From its early years, Allatoona experienced rapid growth in enrollment and success. The school achieved its first state championship in girls’ soccer in 2012. This was followed by notable titles in riflery (2014), football and one-act play (2015), boys’ track (2017–2018), and girls’ volleyball (2019), among others.
Academics and School Life
Allatoona maintains a strong academic reputation, consistently ranking among the top high schools in Georgia. It offers a 4x4 block schedule, a wide range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and pathways in career and technical education. The new Cobb Innovation and Technology Academy on campus is set to expand opportunities in fields like aviation, healthcare, advanced computing, and skilled trades, with opening planned for the 2026–2027 school year.
The school boasts a high graduation rate and sends a large percentage of graduates to four-year colleges. It emphasizes fine arts, athletics, clubs, and character education, and has been recognized as Georgia’s Most Positive High School by the Positive Athlete organization.
With a diverse student body of approximately 1,600 students, Allatoona continues to thrive as a relatively young but accomplished school, fostering achievement in a supportive suburban environment. Its official website is www.cobbk12.org/allatoona.
