The first 6 weeks are behind us, and we hope everyone had a chance to relax and reset over the break. Remember, trust the process (listed below 😉). Students are going to face bumps in the road or have uncomfortable moments seeing grades they aren't used to. When that happens, follow these steps: Suggest the following to your students (you can say Ms. Wood said so 😉): -Attend tutoring: Do so with very specific questions. Teachers are there to answer specific questions about concepts, missed questions on quizzes/tests, or misunderstood content. If their teacher does not have tutoring at a convenient time, have them ask their teacher for a different time or peer tutor.
-Talk with your teacher: This can feel daunting, but teachers WANT to help. If it's easier to email, have them email for a time to talk.
-Also, see The Counseling Corner each week in the Spartan Newsletter for helpful resources.
Absences - we've had several reach out about missing school. High school is a little different, especially on the block schedule and in a magnet program, where missing school means missing vital instructional time that builds each day and each year. Please be mindful of pulling students out of school for appointments, family trips, and even academic activities. While we understand some absences are unavoidable, and students can access missed work on CTLS, each day is 1.5 hours of instructional time that cannot be made up, and CCSD does not permit any student to take final exams early.
