Campbell High School students host Impact Prom

Impact Through Action is the motto for the Campbell High School Chick-fil-A Leader Academy. Through their monthly leader labs, the group’s goal has been to instill in students the desire and drive to make great impact on other’s lives through time and gifts.

The student Leader Academy chose to host an event to honor special education students at Campbell and their beloved late teacher, Sybrina Wilkes.

In previous years, the Campbell students held in-person Impact Proms. However, they decided to host a drive-thru celebration this year to follow health and safety guidelines.

With pom-poms in hand, Campbell cheerleaders welcomed the group’s special guests.  The students smiled as they made their way down the sidewalk lined with celebration stations.

One of the celebration stations was hosted by DECA and Campbell senior, Erika.

“I love helping out,” the DECA volunteer said.

Although this was her first year volunteering at the Impact Prom, she supported many clubs during her time at Campbell. The clubs helped her get out of her comfort zone. The Impact Prom was scheduled just a few days ahead of Erika’s high school graduation.

“I get so emotional thinking about it,” Erika said. “I think I’m going to miss [Campbell] a lot.”

She praised her time at Campbell and shared what she liked most about the school.

“The teachers are so special. They help you a lot, and they are always there for you,” she added.

At another celebration station, a Campbell junior shared a book she created herself during the pandemic.

Tara wrote the “The Story of Adi” to share her family’s therapy dog with others.

She wanted to find a way to spread happiness even when they could not take her therapy dog to senior living centers as they had in the past because of COVID-19. Before passing out the books to the special guests at the Impact Prom, Tara had already given out 150-200 books.

“It is something to brighten their day,” the Campbell Junior said.

In addition to the celebration stations, which also featured community organizations and members from a local fire station, the Impact Prom’s honored guests also enjoyed Kona Ice and a cookout.

The Campbell students supporting Chick-fil-A Leader Academy Impact Prom worked all year to make the event possible. Despite all the year's challenges, the Academy students were still able to help Campbell’s special needs community end the school year with smiles on their faces.
