Mission & Vision

Mission: The counseling department at CHLES will work collaboratively with staff parents and the community to provide an engaging and innovative comprehensive counseling program. The CHLES counseling program will analyze data with fidelity to strategically address the areas of academic and social emotional support to ensure all students are life-long learners prepared to be productive members of society.

Vision: CHLES students will strive for academic, career, and personal goals while practicing empathy and social responsibility and become successful citizens of tomorrow that positively impact their communities.

Services Provided by Counselors

Counseling Core Curriculum Classroom Lessons: We visit each classroom multiple times throughout the school year and have the chance to interact with every student during these lessons.  Lessons typically last 30 minutes in length and cover topics such as school readiness skills, understanding feelings of self and others, problem solving skills, friendship skills, and study skills.

Individual Counseling: Some students can benefit from one-on-one counseling regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges. Please note that individual counseling is not therapeutic in nature, as it is beyond the role of the school counselor to conduct in-depth, on-going individual sessions. Sessions are kept confidential except when students disclose that they are being hurt, are hurting someone else, or want to hurt themselves.

Group Counseling: A variety of small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills along with their peers, and to students who are coping with similar life situations.  Groups can have anywhere from 3-12 members and usually meet once a week during lunch for several weeks.
