Daniell 6th Grade and Returning Families:
Welcome to Daniell! We are excited to get to know you in just a few short weeks! In the meantime, this newsletter has some important information for you that will get you and your student set up for success in middle school! Once school begins you will receive a "Friday at Five" newsletter every Friday at- you guessed it- 5:00 pm. This message is special just for 6th grade families for now. If you know someone who will be registering or hasn't quite completed the registration process yet, feel free to forward this on to them.
1. Student laptops: All middle school students will be issued a Cobb County laptop once the parent opts in for it on Parent Vue. Directions in English and in Spanish are attached below to show you how to opt in. Opt in now- before things get crazy with the back to school busyness! 100% of our students opt in, and students use the laptops daily at school, so please plan to opt in! Cobb County firewalls and protections are in place to keep your student safe when they use the laptops. Parents may go ahead and opt in for the school year. Your student will keep this laptop until he/she graduates from high school or leaves the county. Students will receive the laptop once school begins and they have a lesson on laptop safety and care.
2. If you had a Parent Vue account in elementary school, use the same login information to access Parent Vue now. If you need help getting a Parent Vue account or remembering your password, please call the school for assistance. 678-594-8048. Trust me, you need a Parent Vue account for your middle schooler! This is how you monitor grades, attendance, and tardiness. It is also how you see quarterly report cards.
3. If your student attended a Daniell feeder elementary school, he/she is already registered for school. Simply show up for Meet and Greet and/or the first day of school. If you recently moved, please update your address in Parent Vue. Anytime your address or phone number changes during the year, you should update Parent Vue with the new info. The front office is happy to help if you need assistance.
4. Meet and Greet is Tuesday, July 30 from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm for 6th grade and 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm for 7th and 8th grades. Come by anytime during those windows of time. Your student should plan to attend if possible. If you and/or your student cannot make it that day, we will take good care of your student the first day of school, and help him/her get to the right place.
5. Boo Hoo Breakfast: 6th grade parents, save the date for the Boo Hoo Breakfast! This is only for 6th grade parents and takes place August 1 in the Daniell cafeteria at 9:20 am. Students report to class, and parents go to the breakfast. Parents are not allowed to walk their student to class the first day. Our staff will happily help your student find their way!
6. Parents and students: This year we will take advantage of the many features within CTLS. This includes a calendar feature which will allow students to track and post assignments and due dates electronically via their student laptops. Teachers will show students how to use this feature during class. Students will not be provided agendas, so it is important for you and your student to review the information in the Daniell Handbook below. Daily processes and procedures are outlined here.
