Optional Parent Placement for with colorful children in background

Dear East Side Families,

As we began to plan and prepare for the upcoming school year, class placement is a task that is in the forefront of everyone’s minds. This is an extensive project that requires much time and energy to ensure that the best possible class is formed for each child according to their needs. In putting together our class lists we consider many factors. Some of those include academic ability, services the child receives, behavioral characteristics, learning styles, etc. Our GOAL is to ensure that each child is in a balanced classroom with a teacher who best fits each student’s learning profile and needs.

One important piece of information that we choose to use at East Side is parent input.  I welcome and encourage parent input through an Input form. This year, East Side is encouraging all parents to complete an Electronic Parent Input Form per child for rising Kindergarten- rising 5th grade students, if desired. This form is completely OPTIONAL and please know that the utmost care will be used to select your child’s teacher with or without a parent input form. We are blessed to have only the best teaching staff at East Side Elementary and we know your child will receive an excellent education for the upcoming school year. Should you wish to complete a parent input placement form, it is available online today and will be closed at 3pm on Tuesday, April 15th.

Here is some information & directions for you to follow as you complete the parent input placement form. It is critical that you read and follow all directions below for your form to be considered:

Forms are only available electronically. Please click the link to access the form: Parent Input Placement Form. After you answer the first three questions, more information will appear. The link to the form can also be found on East Side’s website www.cobbk12.org/eastside.

It is crucial that the information entered in the form is accurate, ESPECIALLY the grade level entered for the UPCOMING school year. Forms are only applicable for rising K-5th grade students.

It is equally as important that we have only ONE form completed per child, and we are asking that only the enrolling adult complete the form. Multiple forms for the same child will not be accepted and will be deleted, so please take time and care in completing your form to ensure you have listed all the information that you would like to be reviewed.

The electronic form will close for current ES students at 3pm on Tuesday, April 15th- this is a firm deadline, and late submissions will not be accepted.

Forms are completely optional & confidential.

A few policies in place regarding the form are:

1.    No request for a specific teacher by name will be accepted. You are welcome to describe the type of learning environment or teacher personality that you feel works best for your child, but NO placement forms listing specific teacher’s names will be reviewed.

2.    No requests to have another child placed in the same class as your child (exception of twins) will be accepted. We are not able to honor requests of friends being placed in the same classrooms due to many various factors.

3.    You MAY list the name of ONE student that you would like to have separated from your child if desired. Please note that this request is not guaranteed due to services required, etc.

4.    It is recommended that families keep the information recorded on forms brief and concise.

5.    If your child is NOT returning to East Side for the 25-26 school year, then we ask that you let us know this information by completing this form: Students not returning to ES for 25-26 school year. Please note that this form does not need to be completed for our graduating 5th grade students. Should you list your child on this form, they will not be placed in a homeroom class for the 25-26 school year. Should your plans change AFTER completing this form and you will be returning to East Side for the 25-26 SY, it is critical that you email the registration clerk, Meredith Hay (Meredith.hay@cobbk12.org) to let her know and complete any necessary and required paperwork.

We welcome your input about your child as we begin the placement process and I encourage you to complete a placement form.  Thank you for assisting our team as we work to provide the best possible learning environment for each and every student!

Sincerely,

Maria Clark
