Cobb Schools golf teams vie for titles

May 21, 2026 — In the final days of classes, Cobb Schools golfers still had work to do on the fairways and greens of the 2026 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Golf State Championships. Four teams, two in 4A and two in 6A, qualified for the state tournaments. Additionally, five individual players posted low rounds in their Area or Sectional tournaments to earn the right to play for individual titles within their classifications.

4A Results

The 4A GHSA Golf State Championships, held in Savannah, Georgia, featured both the boys and girls teams from Allatoona High School. Buccaneers golf coach Joe Lanier's teams had hoped for better results, but he recognized how special it was that both of his teams “made it to the show.”

Allatoona senior Jacob Best led the boys team, shooting a 1-under 70 in the 2nd round to finish tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard.

In the girls competition, Allatoona junior Wesleigh Myers finished near the top of the standings, placing 3rd.

“Wesleigh is a consistent force in our program that models work ethic for our younger golfers,” Coach Lanier noted. “Our future looks bright with Wesleigh leading us into next year and another year of experience for our younger group of girls.”

5A Results

Cobb Schools 5A GHSA Golf State Championships representation in beautiful Jekyll Island, Georgia, was limited to three qualifying individuals. Sophomore Jackson Young represented the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs golf program in the boys tournament, and Pope freshman Jack Strasser joined him. Both young men gained valuable experience in the 2026 state tournament.

“We are very proud of Alexa’s 9th-place finish,” Greyhounds golf coach Matt Fox said. “As competitive as golf is and with the number of great girl golfers there are across the state in 5A, a Top-10 finish is something to be very proud of. This being her second trip to the state championship helped as well, knowing what to expect with the pressures that come in this big tournament. This was a great finish for her leading into her senior year.”

6A Results

Closer to home, at Bentwater Golf Club in North Paulding, the Walton girls and Harrison boys teams battled on the course against other top teams in the state. Also earning a chance to compete for individual titles were Harrison freshman Gaby Crossley in the girls tournament, and Hillgrove junior Lane Davis on the boys side.

In the girls competition, the Walton Raiders entered a team of two juniors, two freshmen, and one senior. While this year’s team did not achieve the desired results, the youth in the program is a major point of excitement for next golf season.

Harrison’s boys team, however, enjoyed great results, celebrating a 4th place finish, with two individuals also landing in the Top-10. Junior Zach Light shot 75-72 and finished 6th, while senior Kaiden Drum scored 76-73 for a 10th-place result.

Congratulations, golfers. We are proud of you from tee to green! You are Built for Beyond!
