Hillgrove cadets are again the Navy National Orienteering Champions. They won in 2019 and again this year. The event was not held in 2020 or 2021 due to Covid-19. So, Back-to-back championship over 4 years is truly amazing. Their were 31 total teams and over 400 runners from across the nation who made their way to San Jose, CA for the event.
The orienteering event is a cross-country style race where runners run on their own (staggered start and following not allowed) and have to locate “controls” in unfamiliar terrain with only a map and compass. It is an endurance type of race with runners typically running 5-6 km and a varsity race typically takes about an hour for the winners.
On our return flight home, Mercedes Benz Stadium was lit up in Hillgrove colors to recognize their accomplishment! If you see our cadets, please congratulate them for this awesome accomplishment!
