Rising 9th Grade Information
Welcome to Hillgrove Future Hawks!
We look forward to our future Hawks arrival in August 2025! We know that students will continue to work hard during the second semester of middle school to prepare for the transition to high school. Below is a some information about Hillgrove that might be helpful. Please read this information carefully!
Hillgrove High School uses a 4x4 Block schedule, which allows students to take eight classes each year. 4x4 means that four classes are taken during the first semester and four different classes are taken during the second semester. During each semester, the four blocks of instruction will be about 90 minutes long. A typical high school schedule includes two academic core and two elective classes each semester; however, depending on the courses selected, some schedules may have 3 academic core classes during a semester (see sample schedules on page 7 of the Freshmen Handbook). During registration, 8th grade teachers will recommend core classes based upon performance criteria and academic achievement. Students, with their parents’ assistance, will select your elective courses. It is important for students to consider which college and/or career pathway they will complete in high school and choose courses in which they are interested in. For any questions about registration or course selection, please plan to attend our 8th Grade Parent Night on Thursday, January 23rd from 6:45-8:30 p.m. Our Hillgrove counselors will host a Q & A session on Thursday, January 30th from 11:00-1:00pm regarding registration. Stay tuned for that information to come your way!
