For example, 24 as 20 and 5, 36 as 30 and 6
Draw a 2 x 2 grid, that is, a box with 2 rows and 2 columns
Write the terms of one of the numbers on the top of the box. One on the top of each column
On the left of the grid, write the terms of the other numbers. One on the side of each cell
Write the product of the number on the tens in the first cell. Then write the product of the tens and ones in the second and third cell. Write the product of the ones in the fourth cell
STRATEGY: Rounding Rolling It Game (Rounding up to the nearest tens and thousands)
Purpose: Students will practice rounding numbers to the nearest tens and thousands
Materials: Dice, board, markers
Directions:
Roll all the dice
If playing "Rounding Numbers to the Nearest Ten," you'll create a 3-digit number (264, 145, 256)
If playing "Rounding Numbers to the Nearest Thousand," you'll create a 5-digit number (54623, 36152)
Use of the dice that you just rolled to create a number. You may place the dice in any order to create the number
For example, if you rolled 4, 1, and 6, you may create 416, 461, 146, 614 or 641
Depending on the game that you are playing, round the number that you created to the nearest ten or thousand. Then place one of your counters on top of that number on the game board. If you opponent's counter is already on that number, you may not place your counter on the game.
The first player to make a line of four in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) on the game board wins!
