As the only school in Georgia to win the esteemed Music for All Advocacy in Action Award, Lost Mountain stands out as a leader in music education.

The prestigious national award praises the work of Lost Mountain band teachers Brittany Mori and Vincent Rose and the Lost Mountain Middle School Band for their innovative "Concert on the Lawn" project.

The “Concert on the Lawn” stands out in the community involvement category—a segment of the awards that applauds non-fundraising-based initiatives that unite and inspire communities.

The annual event is a community-wide performance featuring elementary, middle, and high school students within the school cluster. The school invites local restaurant food trucks to add to the fun, family-friendly evening that celebrates young student musicians.

Adding to Cobb’s Music Advocates

This year’s recognition echoes the achievements of another Cobb school, Awtrey Middle School. Awtrey was honored with the Advocacy in Action award in the past for its initiative, “We Saved a Seat for you!” which helped recruit rising 6th graders into the band program.

The Impact of Music for All Advocacy

The Advocacy in Action Awards, presented in categories such as Community Involvement, Decision-Maker Engagement, Elementary Excellence, and more, celebrate educators and community leaders who champion music education. Music for All, a national nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to music-making, believes every child deserves the opportunity to experience the life-changing power of music. With programs serving hundreds of thousands of students annually, these awards recognize excellence and inspire educators across the country to innovate and share their effective practices.

Continuing Cobb’s Legacy for Music Education

For over two decades, Cobb Schools have been celebrated as one of the Best Communities in the Nation for Music Education—a testament to the District’s unwavering commitment to fostering community engagement, inspiring student achievement, and enriching lives through music.

In addition to the latest award for Lost Mountain Middle School, Cobb student musicians and teachers recently took center stage at the recent Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) In-Service Conference. Students demonstrated their musical talents while their teachers led and facilitated 14 sessions to help educators from across the state learn the teaching methods that help Cobb stand out year after year as one of the best in the nation for music education.
