I am honored to be the principal of Mabry Middle School, where I strive to build on the rich tradition of excellence this community has maintained for over forty years. Growing up in a small town in the southeastern part of the state, I often envied my cousins who attended Mabry and Lassiter because of the exceptional opportunities these schools afforded them. After receiving my bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in communications from the University of South Carolina and later my teaching certification from Mercer University, I was lucky enough to be offered a teaching position at Lassiter High School in the English department. Throughout my years at Lassiter, I taught various grade levels and creative writing classes. During that time, I also earned my master’s degree in educational leadership.
After six years at Lassiter, I had the opportunity to serve the district as an Area Lead Teacher, which enabled me to support teachers' needs in multiple East Cobb schools. I then had the privilege of working as an administrator at Daniell Middle School for three years. At that time, I also completed my Ed. S in Educational Leadership at Berry College. Next, I worked for three years as the assistant principal at Simpson Middle School before serving as the principal for four years at Campbell Middle School in Smyrna.
As the principal at Mabry, I love working with staff, students, and parents to ensure that we continue to prioritize an environment where all stakeholders are excited and proud when they walk through the school doors. As our mission states, Mabry truly has HEART, and we work hard every day to ensure that our students and families are well supported in a caring culture.
Lynzee Courtney
Assistant Principal
My name is Lynzee Courtney, and I have been in education for 16 years! I am so excited to join you all at Mabry—your reputation is phenomenal. In my teaching career, I have been in ELA, Reading, Social Studies, and served in both the general education role as well as the special education role. My passions reside in the ELA/Reading realm as well as middle school students in general. I love connecting with students and helping them in any manner that I am able!
Outside of work, you can find me at Universal Studios (I call it Hogwarts) or on a cruise ship most breaks. I have two dogs that I treat as human children—Albus Rumbleroar (Albie) and Kingsley Shacklebone. My husband (I refer to him as Mr. Courtney) and I love to enjoy the Marietta Square on weekends.
Dustin Owens
Assistant Principal

My name is Dustin Owens, and I am humbled and delighted to be serving as your new Assistant Principal. The opportunity to join such a distinguished team at Mabry is truly an honor, and I am so excited to contribute to the incredible work underway here.
I have been in education since 2013, originally teaching overseas in Khon Kaen, Thailand, for two years. I then spent the next eight years teaching and coaching in Fulton County at Autrey Mill Middle School before spending the past three years here in Cobb at East Cobb Middle School, where I taught Social Studies and served as the Gifted Coordinator.
I grew up just down the road in Alpharetta, where I went to Milton High School. Then, I attended Clemson University for my undergraduate degree before receiving my Master of Arts in Teaching from Georgia State University.
My wife and I have two wonderful children, one girl (4) and one boy (2). They occupy most of my time outside of work, but when I have a minute, you can find me watching sports, reading, traveling, hiking, or training for my next marathon.
