Cobb Schools' Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of a male and a female student-athlete that perform at high levels in their sport, in the classroom, and in their school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.

This week's winners are a kicker from McEachern and a region-champ pitcher from North Cobb.

Jonathan Rodriguez, McEachern, Football

In McEachern's first region game of the season, Jonathan kicked a 48-yard field goal late in the game to put the Indians up by two scores, 24-14. He was also 3 for 3 on extra points, contributing 6 points to his team's 24-21 victory over Harrison.

The Indians are now 2-0 in region play and face a very tough North Paulding team away this Friday. This game will likely determine the region champ, and having a solid kicker like Jonathan on the roster is a tremendous asset for Coach Kareem Reid and the team.

Leah Byrd, North Cobb, Softball

The Warriors are having an outstanding season, having won their region and every other game they played through early October. Leah's .591 average at the plate and 22 RBIs are one important reason for North Cobb's production on offense. On the mound, she is also stellar with 44 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched.

"Leah is a quiet leader that knows how to get the job done," said North Cobb Athletic Director Matt Williams. "She played flag football last year and basketball in middle school. She could probably play any sport, but she excels at softball and has a chance to play at a very high level in college."

"She also makes very good grades in school. She wants to win at everything she touches and she is definitely a leader on the team," AD Williams concluded about his Athlete of the Week.

Congratulations Jonathan and Leah! We can't wait to see what happens in the rest of your seasons. Great job supporting these special scholar-athletes, McEachern and North Cobb!
