Welcome to AVID at Osborne High School!

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. This program supports students who want to do well in school, go to college, and/or pursue a career after high school. AVID helps students build strong skills for learning, organization, and responsibility.

What Does AVID Do for Students?

Students in AVID learn:

  • How to take notes and study effectively
  • How to manage time and stay organized
  • How to ask questions and think critically
  • How to prepare for college and career opportunities

AVID students receive:

  • Support from a trained AVID teacher
  • Help from tutors and mentors
  • Guidance with college applications, financial aid, and scholarships
  • Opportunities to visit colleges and career centers

Who Is AVID For?

AVID is designed for students who:

  • Want to challenge themselves and improve academically
  • May be the first in their family to attend college
  • Benefit from extra academic support and encouragement
  • Are motivated to learn and grow

Students do not need perfect grades to join AVID. What matters most is effort, commitment, and a positive attitude.

How Does AVID Support Families?

We believe families are an important part of student success. AVID:

  • Provides clear communication between school and home
  • Offers family information meetings and resources
  • Helps parents understand the college and career pathway
  • Encourages families to stay involved and ask questions

We welcome families from all backgrounds, languages, and experiences.

Our Commitment

The AVID Program is committed to helping every student:

  • Believe in themselves
  • Set high goals
  • Take responsibility for their learning
  • Prepare for success beyond high school

Together, students, families, and teachers work as a team to build a strong future.
