Riverside Elementary is one of the first schools in Cobb County to offer a Dual Language Program which offers a rich bilingual experience for young learners when their minds are developmentally best able to acquire a second language.

Students enjoy the advantage of having two caring, qualified teachers. The English-speaking teacher uses half of the instructional day to teach English language arts and content enrichment. The Spanish-speaking teacher uses the other half of the day to teach Spanish literacy, math, and portions of social students and science.

PURPOSE

To develop and prepare students with linguistic and academic competencies in two languages, to be highly engaged and contributing global citizens.

PROGRAM GOALS

All Dual Language Immersion students will become bilingual, biliterate and develop positive cross-cultural attitudes and behaviors.

DEFINITION

The Dual Language Immersion Program integrates native Spanish-speaking students and native English speaking students. Instruction is provided in both native language and English. This specialized program promotes bilingualism, biliteracy, grade-level academic achievement, and positive cross-cultural awareness.
