Community Celebrates the Season at South Cobb and Pearson
The lights never seem to turn off at South Cobb High School and Pearson Middle School. Both schools constantly host activities and events that involve and serve their local communities. The end-of-year season is yet another opportunity for them to keep giving back.
At South Cobb, the annual Winter Wonderland Family Feast brought out nearly 300 community members, students, staff, and a few special guests. District 3 Board Member Tre Hutchins was seen among the crowd enjoying the food and festivities, as well as a mysterious man dressed in a bright red suit that all the children seemed to recognize.
"It was our largest turnout since we began having the event six years ago, and there was plenty of food and toys, lots of smiles and laughter, and our students did a great job performing. I'd definitely say it was a success!" said Principal T.J. Perry.
Principal Perry started the event in 2019, his first year leading South Cobb. It has grown steadily since then. Generous sponsors and other Partners in Education fully funded this year's event. Local support provided the food, decorations, entertainment, and even Santa's candy canes and Christmas presents. No one left hungry or empty-handed.
"Everyone I spoke with really enjoyed themselves and loved the food," Principal Perry added. "One of my favorite moments was when I sat with a family of a current 8th grader coming to South Cobb next fall. I had a chance to talk with her and her family about what to expect in high school and how much fun we have at South Cobb. They were all smiles!"
The school's Electricity Show Choir performed various songs throughout the evening, including well-known carols. Some sang as a group, while others performed solo. Art created by students also adorned the cafeteria in various places to reinforce the Winter Wonderland theme.
After dinner, a line of wide-eyed children began to form that led directly to the Man in Red himself. A warm smile from underneath his white beard greeted each one as they climbed up on his lap to give him the latest update to their wish list. It was a moment that each family member and child won't soon forget.
At Pearson, the giving spirit is evident all year round, with projects like the Pearson Fresh Market and Pilot's Hangar that make food, clothing, books, toys, and much more available to those in need in the community.
Principal Dean Yoder understands that the school building is the hub of the community and uses any and all resources to help and encourage. Pearson's mission is "To Connect, To Empower, To Succeed." The Fresh Market and the Pilot's Hangar receive regular donations from MUST Ministries, Atlanta Community Food Bank, and GracePointe Church, as well as from community groups and members.
Pearson welcomed over 300 community members to the school for its annual Thanksgiving Dinner celebration last month. Allatoona High School culinary students, led by Chef Anne Alejandro, prepared starches and desserts. Along with valued Partners in Education, Pearson staff generously provided ham and turkey, and the Fair Oaks Kindness Club, guided by Ashlee Slade-Ross, contributed all the drinks for the event.
In early December, the school also hosted another beloved tradition: Breakfast with Santa. Thanks to collaborations with Amanda Edwards’ class at Allatoona, MUST Ministries, and John Crockett (rockstar store manager at the Kennesaw Home Depot), more than 600 children received gifts and a fantastic morning meal. The Cobb County Sheriff’s Department delivered Santa in unforgettable style, setting the tone for an enchanting morning. Each child and their family also received a complimentary photo with Santa to remember their special day.
"I am beyond grateful for the incredible partnerships, team members, and community supporters who step forward with open hearts and hands to make these initiatives possible," Principal Yoder said with deep appreciation. "Together, we’re able to continue to create a true community of care for those who need it most."
"This event has solidified its place as one of the largest and most cherished school events in the area each year. No one does it better than Pearson Middle School—the One & Only!" Principal Yoder concluded with a smile.
