The Inside Scoop: Research and Medical Magnet at South Cobb HS
The Academy of Research and Medical Sciences at South Cobb High School is a magnet program focusing on bio-sciences. The program’s coordinator is Angela Hurley, and she is David’s guest on today’s episode of The Inside Scoop.
The Academy provides an opportunity for an in-depth exploration of medical sciences and scientific research. Coursework is tailored to infuse current topics in medical science as well as cutting-edge research techniques and data analysis. The medical science portion of the program utilizes the on-site medical lab/clinic and provides access to teachers with industry experience. The research portion of the program is emphasized throughout all four years of the program. It culminates in an original research project and a chance to intern with a local health professional or business of the student’s choice.
The curriculum also includes advanced placement science and math courses, medical science, anatomy, and biotechnology. The program is diverse in terms of career outcomes, and students can pursue various paths in and beyond the medical field.
The program currently has 165 students and the application process is competitive. Interested students and families are encouraged to explore the campus, attend events like the annual white coat ceremony, and connect with the school’s parent associations to learn more.
