Voices of Vaughan

The mission of the Voices of Vaughan is to represent Vaughan Elementary in school and community performances throughout the school year. Chorus is open to all fourth and fifth grade students who successfully pass an audition for the group at the beginning of the school year.

Chorus is a wonderful opportunity for your child to participate in making music while working with other students towards a common goal. The Voices of Vaughan are led by Larry Drawdy and Kim Horn.

The chorus participates in several exciting events throughout the school year, including performances for KSU Women’s Volleyball, West Cobb Kiwanis Club, Vaughan’s Santa Shoppe, District XII Elementary Choral Festival, An Evening Under the Stars, and a Braves baseball game.

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl promotes a love of reading and conversation about books. Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is a state-wide reading initiative and quiz bowl-style competition that gauges their knowledge of Georgia Book Award books. Anyone who is a fourth or fifth grade student of Vaughan is eligible to be on the team.  We will meet every Thursday through January. The HRRB team is led by Angelena Washington Adams with the assistance of Brooke Melton, Hollie Peterson, and Tracie Perkins. The HRRB team competes in local and county level competitions.

STEM

The STEM Team at Vaughan is a competitive group focused on Science Olympiad events and math competitions. This diverse team, made up of curious and enthusiastic young scientists from various grades, fosters collaboration, creativity, and a passion for learning.

Members participate in hands-on experiments, engineering design challenges, and environmental science projects. They work together to build structures, conduct experiments, and solve problems, often meeting after school for practice. With the support of dedicated coaches, they develop critical thinking, teamwork, and time management skills as they prepare for competitions.

The atmosphere is vibrant and supportive, with students encouraging each other and celebrating all achievements, big and small. Competing against other schools allows them to deepen their understanding of scientific concepts and gain confidence in their abilities. The STEM Team is more than just a competitive group; it’s a community that nurtures a lifelong love for science and discovery.

BLAST TEAM

Our BLAST Team (Building Leaders and Soaring Together) promotes leadership and service learning throughout our school.  Our team is comprised of third through fifth-grade students chosen as the representative for their classroom.  Each homeroom will select a representative for the new school year. Members participate in activities around the building that foster a sense of community.  They may participate in recycling, student greeters, mystery read, peer helper, provide feedback to the administration, or help with various projects that promote a positive school environment. BLAST students are leaders in their classroom and redeliver to their class after each meeting. The members typically meet the first Monday of the month. The BLAST Team is led by Nicola Boone, Ashley Crumbley, and Sina Pickles.
