Honoring Those Who Served: Cobb Schools Thanks Veterans
SHARE
From a parade around the Marietta Square to parades through school halls and hundreds of students performing patriotic songs, Cobb schools across the District showed their appreciation for the community’s veterans.
“As a veteran myself, I appreciate seeing the Cobb Schools community come together to honor those who have served. How our community values service, whether in the classroom or unform, is another reason why I am proud to call Cobb home,” said Board Chair Randy Scamihorn, who attended the Ford Elementary School Veterans Day celebration.
Generations of veterans filled Cobb schools where students lined the halls to thank their honored guests. Students at Rocky Mount Elementary wrote letters to the veterans who enjoyed breakfast after student performances.
“Thank you for your service. Thank you for protecting our country. You are a great person and will be honored for your service,” Rocky Mount’s Wynn wrote.
Cobb JROTC cadets and Boy Scouts presented the colors and escorted the veterans during the appreciation events that took place at all school levels. The student cadets and Cobb bands marched through Marietta to honor the community's veterans.
Some of the Cobb students were especially proud of the veterans—their dads, moms, grandparents, and other cherished family members.
“Thank you for your service and for protecting our country,” Shallowford Elementary School student Easton said in his letter, which he presented to a veteran at his school's celebration event.
Board member Brad Wheeler joined the Still Elementary School community for their Veterans Day celebration.
“It's important that we let our veterans know how much we appreciate them, but it's also important for our students to see and meet them. They may not wear the uniform any longer, but they are the hometown heroes of our school communities,” Mr. Wheeler shared.

The event featured an inspiring performance by the school's ensemble choir, whose songs filled the air with gratitude and respect for those who have served. Student speakers took the stage to share personal reflections, further emphasizing the importance of honoring our veterans. A guest speaker, who served in both the Army and Marine Corps, is one of Compton's own substitute teachers. The celebration culminated in a joyful procession through the halls, where students cheered and clapped in appreciation, creating a moving display of unity and respect for those who have served our country.
