Clinic
Our school clinic is staffed by Nurse Lauren Huddleston, RN MSN from 7:15am - 2:15 pm. Nurse Lauren can be contacted via email at Lauren.Huddleston@cobbk12.org or via the clinic phone by calling the main line at 770-578-7248 and asking for the clinic.
Students who become ill or injured at school are given health care in the clinic. Minor injuries are treated. Parents are contacted when the injury or illness is of a more serious nature so that they may pick up their student.
IS MY CHILD WELL ENOUGH TO GO TO SCHOOL?
Form JCG-6 outlines policies and guidelines. *It is critical that your child is symptom-free without medication for 24 hours before sending them back to school.

MEDICATIONS IN THE CLINIC
All medications require an Authorization to Give Medication Form . *If your student has multiple medications, each medication will require its own Authorization to Give Medication form
See below for other medication forms you might need:
- Authorization to Carry Over the Counter Medication (for elementary school, this is only cough drops/throat lozenges).
- Authorization to Carry Prescription Medication (for elementary school, this includes asthma inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors, or Diabetes monitoring devices).
Unused medication will be disposed of unless picked up within one week after medication is discontinued. If medication is given throughout the school year, medication will be disposed of according to the Cobb County medication regulation section A12a.
All medications must be dropped off to the clinic by a parent, they cannot be brought to the clinic by students or sent to school in backpacks. When dropping medications off to the clinic-please allow at least 5-10 minutes for this process as Nurse Lauren needs to ensure all the correct paperwork is present. If students are present in the clinic, she will need to attend to them before she is able to do medication check in process with parents so please be patient. Nurse Lauren’s clinic hours are M-F 7:15-2:15 and the best times for parents to bring medications are from 7:30-8:30am or from 1:00-2:00pm.
Please Note: Nurse Lauren can only accept medication in the clinic that meets the following requirements:
Prescription Medication Requirements:
- All prescription medications should be in their original container (i.e. no loose pills in a Ziplock baggie)
- The Authorization to Give Medication form (form JGCD-2) must be signed by the parent/guardian AND the physician for ALL prescription medication.
- The parent/guardian must inform the school of any medication changes. New medications or new doses will not be given unless a new form is completed.
- The prescription label instructions should match the instructions written on the Authorization to Give Medication form, signed by the physician
- All prescription medication must have the following clearly and legibly printed on the label:
- First and Last Name of student
- Name of Medication
- Dose
- Time(s) to administer. [PLEASE NOTE: please make sure that the time(s) you want your child to receive their medication at school is consistent with the pharmacy label and the administration instructions provided on the Authorization to Give Medication form, signed by the provider. Legally, Nurse Lauren can only administer the medication consistent with the time(s) listed on the pharmacy label].
- Please check the expiration date, as Nurse Lauren cannot accept expired medication.
- The medication/pill description on the label should match the medication/pills inside the bottle.
- Please bring in no more than a 30-day supply of daily medication.
- If you are bringing in a medication that is a controlled substance (typically ADD/ADHD or seizure medications) Nurse Lauren will have to do a count of the medication when you bring it to the clinic. If you are bringing pills, she must count the number of pills. If you are bringing a syrup or solution, Nurse Lauren will need to count the exact milliliters you are bringing. To make this process easier, it would be best if you provide a full, unopened bottle of syrups or solutions from the pharmacy with the number of milliliters printed on the label. Or ask the pharmacy to fill the medication in a prescription bottle that is marked with the milliliters. If the bottle is opened and there are not milliliter markings on the side so that Nurse Lauren can see how much is in it, she will have to draw all of the medication up into syringes marked by milliliters to measure how much you are bringing.
- If your child has allergies, asthma, a chronic illness, diabetes, seizures, or sickle cell disease, please ensure you are also bringing the appropriate action plans with the medication you are dropping off (i.e. if dropping off EpiPen and Benadryl for peanut allergy, please ensure you are also bringing allergy action plan). Please visit this link to find the appropriate forms and action plans you need: Medical Forms and Care Plans (cobbk12.org)
Over-the-Counter (OTC) Medication Requirements:
- Per Cobb County Policy, a general supply/stock of over-the-counter medications is not kept in the clinic. If you feel your child may need any over-the-counter medications throughout the school year (i.e. Tylenol for headache or Benadryl stick for bug bites) parents will need to fill out an Authorization to Give Medication form and bring the medication to the clinic.
- All medications should be in their original container (i.e. no loose pills in a Ziplock baggie)
- The Authorization to Give Medication form only requires a parent/guardian signature for OTC medication. OTC medication does not require a physician’s signature.
- Please check the expiration date, as Nurse Lauren cannot accept expired medication.
