The Cobb Schools’ Athletic Department has selected the latest Coach of the Month (COM) winners. The COM award highlights a female and a male coach doing exceptional work in the District. 

In conjunction with the Atlanta Braves and Good Game Atlanta, the winners receive a complimentary one-night stay at Aloft Atlanta at the Battery and dinner from Good Game Atlanta. 

“This is a small token of our appreciation for their efforts both on and off the court,” said Cobb’s Director of Athletics, Don Baker. “Coaches teach a full day, and their days are only half-over when the bell rings at 3:30. They continue to work with our student-athletes for hours each week, often at the expense of their own spouses and children. We believe we have the best coaches in the state and want to celebrate them as much as possible!”

The December winners are head coaches from Kennesaw Mountain and Osborne. Eden Hunt coaches Rifle for the Mustangs, and Troy Pruett is the Cardinal Wrestling coach.

Eden Hunt, Kennesaw Mountain, Rifle

The Mustang Rifle Team is off to a great start this season; they won their first five matches, and Coach Hunt has been able to accomplish this with many new students in the lineup. She has been at Kennesaw Mountain for the last decade and has done a remarkable job with the rifle program over the last five years. She is not only a favorite teacher and coach at the school but was also recognized with the Keep Cobb Beautiful Environmental Educator Award in 2022.

“Coach Hunt does an amazing job teaching and coaching our Rifle team,” said Mustang Principal Nathan Stark. “Her team has had sustained success at the area and state levels. In the classroom, she is a content expert who teaches both on-level and advanced courses, including Magnet Internship.”

Troy Pruett, Osborne, Wrestling

Coach Pruett leads both the girls’ and the boys’ wrestling programs for the Cardinals. The girls have a full team for the first time in school history and won their second straight Cobb County Championship in December; they placed 8th in the state last season. The boys’ team is also improving and finished in the Top 4 of the Region last season. Coach Pruett has built up both programs since returning to Osborne in 2020. He teaches Health and Physical Education and is an assistant coach for the Cardinal football team.

“His leadership has added value to our school by guiding our whole wrestling program,” said Osborne Athletic Director Ron Boggs, “but growing our ladies’ program into a state power is amazing. The culture of trust that Coach Pruett has created helps us to get closer to our mission of developing gritty, humble leaders. Our athletes trust him, so he can coach them hard and push them through adverse situations that come their way.”
