Cobb County School District Attendance Policy

The Attendance Office at Sprayberry High School is located at the school entrance off of the back parking lot from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. This is the location where students must check in or out of school.  All students must sign-in to the attendance office when arriving late to school. Any student leaving school early that is not in an off-campus class (Dual Enrollment or Cobb Virtual) must sign-out in the attendance office before leaving. Not doing so can result in school suspension. Please note that per district policy there are no checkouts after 3:00 P.M.

WHAT IF I AM ABSENT FROM SCHOOL?
Students who have been absent from school must submit an excuse email SprayberryHSSupport@cobbk12.org upon their return to school. Per Cobb County policy, excuses must be submitted by the enrolling adult or authorized parent/guardian the first day that a student returns to school following an absence, but no later than three (3) days after the student’s return to school. Submissions will NOT be accepted after the three (3) day limit.

The Georgia State Board of Education policy allows only the following circumstances to be EXCUSED:

  • Personal illness
  • Death or serious illness in the immediate family (parents, stepparents, legal guardians, grandparents, and siblings)
  • Recognized religious holidays observed by the student's faith
  • Absences mandated by governmental agencies (court orders, etc.)
  • Conditions which render school attendance impossible or hazardous to the student's health and safety
  • Service as a page in the Georgia General Assembly

All other reasons for absence are UNEXCUSED.

When applicable, all excuse notes from a doctor, government agency, etc. must be on official letterhead.  These can be submitted by paper or electronically to SprayberryHSSupport@cobbk12.org. Please note that students are NOT permitted to write excuse notes or send emails, even if with parent signature or permission. Notes written by students will NOT be accepted.

WHAT INFORMATION NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED IN AN EXCUSE EMAIL?
All excuse emails must include the following information:

  • Student name
  • Student school ID number
  • Date(s) of absence(s)
  • Reason for absence
  • Contact number where the parent can be reached

*Emails must be sent by the enrolling adult or authorized parent/guardian.

WHAT IF I AM TARDY TO SCHOOL OR CHECKING IN LATE?
If a student arrives at school after 8:20 am, an excuse email (sent to SprayberryHSSupport@cobbk12.org) is required at the time of check-in if the tardy is to be marked excused.  Only the reasons above may be excused.  Students must check-in at the Attendance Office upon arrival.  Please note that excessive tardies or failure to sign in properly will result in the following disclipline structure for tardies:

  • 6 unexcused tardies - after school detention
  • 9 unexcused tardies - 1 day of ISS
  • 12 unexcused tardies - 2 days of ISS
  • 15 unexcused tardies - 3 days of ISS

WHAT IF I NEED TO CHECK OUT OF SCHOOL EARLY?

A parent, guardian or administrator must grant permission to check out in every case. Parent/guardian is not required to come into the school when picking up a student. Under non-emergency circumstances, the parent should email sprayberryhssupport@cobbk12.org with the name of the student and time that they need to sign-out. We will then call the student down to sign out and exit the building. Emails should be sent an hour in advance to better ensure that the email is seen. In cases where it is less than an hour, please contact the main office to notify that the email has been sent.

If you prefer to come in, please make sure to bring your ID with you and know that it could take extra time depending on the number of checkouts happening at that time.

As stated above, students cannot signout later than 3 P.M.

Certificates of Enrollment
Certificates of Enrollment (COE) for a student's driver's permit can be requested in the Front Office each day before 3:00pm. The cost is $2.00 and exact change must be provided since we are not permitted to make change, and no coins are accepted. Students can request a COE in person at the Front Office and can pick up the COE in two school days.
