Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college level courses taught in high schools throughout the country. The College Board establishes curriculum content, and students have the opportunity to take a year-end exam which may qualify them for college credit. Lassiter High School offers 30 different AP courses in the areas of Fine Arts, English, Mathematics, Science, Career/Technology, Foreign Language, and Social Studies.

• Why is it important to take an AP course in high school?  
  1. An AP course offers a unique learning experience. Students have access to AP Classroom Resources provided by College Board. 
  2. Students who take an AP course have a competitive advantage when applying to colleges and universities.
  3. Students may qualify for college credit.    
  4. Students can earn an extra 1.0 Quality Point towards the Lassiter High School weighted GPA.
• Do many Lassiter students register for AP courses? What are typical scores? 

  More than 40% of Lassiter students take AP exams, and approximately 90% score a three or higher and earn college credit, which far exceeds the state average.

• How do I register for an AP course at Lassiter?

  Students have the opportunity to register for AP classes during the school day the Spring semester before the school year. Students wishing to register for the AP Capstone classes are selected through an application process the year before. Once the class begins, it is important for the student to create a College Board account using their personal email (not a school email) and then join the AP class using the code provided by the teacher.

AP Exam Registration

• When and where are the AP exams administered?

  Exams take place in May of each school year either in the Lassiter gymnasium or designated classrooms within the main building. On rare occasions when an exam is not offered at Lassiter, a student will have the opportunity to take it at a different location off campus. Please refer to the graphic below or to see the exam administration day and time for each specific AP class.

  

• How much does it cost to take an exam?

  Each exam costs $99. There is also a $15 annual administration fee per student. All students enrolled in STEM AP courses are eligible for ONE FREE STEM exam per year. For example, if a student registers for two non-STEM AP exams and two STEM AP exam, their total cost would be $312. Students who qualify for Free/Reduced lunch receive all exams for free. 

• How do students register for exams?

  AP Exam registration will be open from September 5, 2025 - November 5, 2025 through MyPaymentsPlus. Registration and payments must be made by November 5, 2025 or a $40 late fee per exam will be incurred. Absolutely no exam registrations will be accepted after March 1.

• Will I need a laptop to take an exam?

  Most exams have a digital component on the exam that is administered on a platform called Bluebook, so students will need a working laptop. Students may use their school-issued laptop or a Windows or Mac-based personal laptop. Chromebooks, however, are not compatible with the Bluebook testing platform. See the complete list of exam modes to see if your exam will be digital, hybrid or portfolio/audio-based. 

• Do I need to install anything on my laptop for test day?

  School-issued CCSD laptops already have Bluebook installed on them and should be ready for test day. Personal laptops will need to install Bluebook prior to exam day. View instructions on how to install Bluebook to your laptop. 

• How can I prepare for my AP exam?

  Almost all AP tests are now digital, so besides utilizing the practice tests found within AP Classroom, the most important thing you can do to prep for your test is make sure your laptop is updated and running smoothly about a week before the test. To check on a school issued laptop, simply type "check for updates" in the search field of your bottom taskbar. Then allow any updates that are available to run. If there are any issues with this process, please take the laptop to the Lassiter Media Center for support. Laptops should be charged to 100% prior to leaving for your exam

• What do I need to bring with me to the exam?

  Please bring the following items to the exam: 

  1. A fully-charged laptop with Bluebook installed (no Chromebooks allowed); 
  2. Your laptop charger; 
  3. A calculator if you are taking the following AP Tests only - Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Physics 1, Statistics, and Physics C

  DO NOT bring cell phones, smart watches, caps, hoodies, headphones, airpods, or water bottles bottles without a twist top cap

• What happens if I can't attend the exam last minute?

  If a student misses the test for an excused reason, such as a Lassiter athletic/academic event, family tragedy, or test issue, students may take a make-up exam during the AP exam late-testing date designated for the exam. The $40 per exam late-testing fee is waived for excused absences as determined by Lassiter administration. 

After Exam Day

• How will I know my score?

  Advanced Placement (AP) test scores will be accessible online through the student's College Board account. Typically scores are released in mid-July.

• How do I know if the college I'm applying to will accept my AP credit?

  The College Board website provides AP Credit Policy Search tool to help you determine if your AP credit will be accepted at your preferred college.
