Cobb Schools’ Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of male and female student-athletes performing at high levels in their sport, classroom, and school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.

This week’s winners are senior team captains from Hillgrove and Wheeler. Joseph Brooks runs cross country for the Hawks, and Anelize Robberts plays volleyball for the Wildcats.

Joseph Brooks, Cross Country, Hillgrove

Joseph ran a perfect race at the Cobb County XC Championships on September 16, winning 1st and beating the 2nd place finisher by nearly 7 seconds. Joseph ran a strategic race, trailing Wheeler's Chase Fournier most of the way, and then took the lead in the last mile and never looked back. He finished with a time of 16:20.48 and helped the Hawk boys secure a 2nd place finish overall.

"He is a natural leader and an integral aspect of our program," said Hillgrove coach Kailyn Jackman. "He is incredibly hardworking and extremely coachable. He does what is asked of him without hesitation and is willing to put his own success aside for the success of the team. I would love to fill an entire team with athletes like Joseph Brooks!"

"He was named captain last year as a junior and was re-elected again this year. His teammates have always looked up to him. He portrays a perfect balance of 'fun' and 'serious' at just the right moments. He also was named a scholar athlete and MVP with a GPA of 4.438 last season," continued Coach Jackman proudly.

"Joseph is a student-athlete that excels both in the classroom and on the course," agreed Hillgrove Athletic Director Johnathan Brown. "He loves a challenge and always gets the job done with a smile, whether it's a schedule filled with AP courses or an intense workout. We are very proud of him being recognized as Athlete of the Week!"

Anelize Robberts, Volleyball, Wheeler

Carrying the team in winners with 44 and hitting ~.700 with a 92% serve percentage, Anelize is a menace to opposing teams. She recently scored her 25th point off the serve and tallied her fourth ace. She is the captain and leader on the court, wherever the rotation moves her, and she takes care of business for the Wildcats. She also plays club volleyball at Tsunami, is involved in her church community and her family’s business, and babysits. She does all this while carrying a 3.8 GPA.

"Anelize is a leader by example as a hard worker with high expectations," said her coach Kelly Feddersen. "She has battled injuries and persevered to get and stay healthy and achieve her goals. She does not let anything get her off course."

"She also manages her time wisely and takes care of those who are new to the program no matter their age or grade level. Her passion shows in the way she prepares, practices, plays, and reflects on all she does to learn, grow, and move forward positively. Anelize embodies the core of the Wheeler Volleyball program demonstrating our pillars of Integrity, Respect, and Discipline daily, on and off the court. Her smile, support of others, and unwavering grit is admirable. I am proud and honored to have had the opportunity to lead and coach her these last six years through this game we both love," concluded Coach Feddersen about her Athlete of the Week.
