The CCSD School Social Work Department partners with schools, families, and the community to remove barriers to learning. We support students’ social, emotional, and physical well-being so they can succeed academically and thrive.

What We Do
School Social Workers help bridge school, home, and community. Services may include:

What is a School Social Worker?
A School Social Worker is a trained professional who supports students’ emotional well-being, connects families to resources, and helps remove barriers that may interfere with learning.
Why does a school need a School Social Worker?
Students sometimes face challenges outside the classroom that impact their ability to learn. School Social Workers help address these challenges so students can focus on school and succeed.
How are students referred for services?
Students may be referred by teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, or through attendance teams. Services are based on identified needs and school-based problem-solving processes.
How does a School Social Worker differ from a Department of Family and Children’s Services Social Worker (DFCS)?
• School Social Workers focus on supporting student success in school and helping families access resources.
• DFCS investigates cases involving child safety, abuse, or neglect.
We often collaborate when appropriate to ensure student safety and support.
How is a School Social Worker help with attendnace (truancy)?
We work with families to:
• Identify barriers to attendance
• Connect to resources (transportation, housing, healthcare)
• Develop attendance improvement plans
• Support students and families before legal action is considered
