Cobb County School District managed virtual learning during the pandemic through the Cobb Teaching and Learning System (CTLS). Virtual education continues at Cobb through two distinct programs: Cobb Virtual Academy (CVA) and the Cobb Online Learning Academy (COLA). CTLS provides a variety of learning options, allowing for both synchronous and asynchronous learning. Both programs help students maintain academic progress while allowing flexibility to balance life and school.

CVA and COLA differ significantly, and the availability of both makes it possible for Cobb to meet the needs of students and their families in nearly any situation. On today's podcast, David is joined by CVA Director Ryan Fuller and Assistant Director April Sandifer.

The District partners with Georgia Virtual School—one of the top virtual education systems in the country—as a backup option for rare times when classes are full or unavailable. The state-run Georgia Virtual School is recognized as one of the top virtual education systems in the country. However, Cobb's own programs stand out for their local support and close connection to teachers. This hybrid model ensures that students can always receive face-to-face assistance when needed.

CVA has been around for more than two decades, but it continues to evolve as student needs have evolved. It has been expanded to offer electives and specialized courses like world languages and Career and Technical Education while still maintaining Cobb's expected high level of quality. CVA has supported a wide range of students—from aspiring actors and athletes to those with medical issues—while enabling them to keep on track with their education.
