Athlete of the Week April 4, 20205

Cobb Schools’ Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of male and female student-athletes performing at high levels in their sport, classroom, and school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.

This week’s winners are from Hillgrove and Kennesaw Mountain. Maci Tucker plays soccer for the Hawks, and Cameren Williams runs track for the Mustangs.

Maci Tucker, Soccer, Hillgrove

A sophomore at Hillgrove, Maci plays forward for the Lady Hawks. She has 19 goals and five assists in the last nine games. She has scored four consecutive hat tricks (three goals), five game-winning goals, and two game-winning assists. She plays with joy and love for the game of soccer, which is matched by few. She was named All-Region and Co-Region Player of the Year in her freshman year.

"Maci is a tenacious player with a nose for the goal," said her coach, Shannon Center. "She finishes her opportunities at an exceptionally high rate while creating opportunities for others. She is a hard worker with a great attitude who plays a very dynamic game."

"She challenges and raises the level of play of those around her. On the field, she is a game changer by drawing the defenders' attention. She is a creator and finisher who not only scores goals but creates opportunities for the rest of the offense. Maci also plays Club Soccer for Concorde Fire and contributes to a very high-level team there as well," concluded Coach Center proudly.

Cameren Williams, Track, Kennesaw Mountain

A senior runner for the Mustangs, Cameren won the county in the 800m and set a school record with a time of 1:53.47. He also anchored the county champion 4x400m relay in another school record time. Cameren also excels in the classroom and is looking at engineering schools to continue his education and running career.

"Cameren has been a key member of our track and field team all four years of high school," said his coach, Steve Copeland. "He has been running since he was able to walk."

"He is also a member of the Mustang Swim and Dive team, and was a county finalist in the butterfly and finished 2nd at the county dive meet the last two years. He finished in the Top 10 in the state dive meet this year. Cameren is a leader by example and through his mentorship of others," said Coach Copeland about his Athlete of the Week.
