Compton Elementary Hosts Family Engagement Events
Educators at Compton Elementary School recently put students’ math skills to work outside the classroom and got school families to help.
Compton students and families headed over to the local grocery store in Powder Springs for Publix Math Night. Parents and students used grade-level strategies to connect with various priority standards being taught in the classroom. The family event helped engage students in real-life mathematical experiences. Throughout the evening, students were challenged with solving hands-on equations such as elapsed time, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The popularity of Compton’s Publix Math Night draws more students each year.
The Publix Math Night is one of several family and community engagements that Compton Elementary organizes each year.
Even more recently, Compton families and staff bonded over candy, soda, glow sticks, and a movie. Compton Elementary families gathered to spend their Friday night together watching Space Jam: A New Legacy.
The Family Movie Night is a Compton tradition that helps strengthen the relationships between parents, students, and staff and, in turn, increases student success.
