Lady Buc Golfer and Mustang Soccer Player Earn AOW Award
Cobb Schools’ Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of male and female student-athletes performing at high levels in their sport, in the classroom, and in their school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.
This week’s AOW winners are a golfer from Allatoona and a soccer player from Kennesaw Mountain.
Taylor Hudson, Allatoona, Golf
Multi-sport athlete, accomplished musician, and excellent student. All of these describe Taylor, but it was her recent performance on the Cobblestone Golf Course that earned her the title of Athlete of the Week. She shot a 90, led her team to the Area Championship, and finished third individually. She has a 4.40 GPA and is currently taking three AP courses as well as Mastery Orchestra.
"Taylor is developing into one of our top players," said her coach Johnny Tilton. "Her overall development is important to our program because she is what young golfers should strive to be: always looking for ways to improve and never becoming complacent. She is on the swim and dive team and qualified for state in the 200 and 400 relays. She has also been appointed spirit leader for our student government. Taylor is super positive, full of energy, funny, and well-liked by all of her teammates and classmates."
Allatoona Athletic Director Amie Howard agrees: "She is one of the shining stars of Allatoona. She is in multiple leadership, honor, and service organizations on campus and an excellent example of someone who leads by example. Over the past three years I have seen her grow and develop into a young lady who shows that hard work pays off in different ways. She has always been a strong student, but I have seen her develop into an amazing athlete who is willing to contribute in any way she can to help make her team better."
"Being a multi-sport athlete is hard enough, but doing this while in mastery level orchestra, AND having a 4.4 GPA, AND being a part of student government, AND helping to promote the school and programs in any way she can makes Taylor Hudson one of a kind!" said AD Howard about her Athlete of the Week.
Ethan Furletti, Kennesaw Mountain, Soccer
The Mustang soccer team has had an incredible season and have won their way to the 7A Final Four of the GHSA state championship tournament. Ethan was the most impactful player in their first-round win over Central Gwinnett. He has been a varsity starter for two years and is the second leading scorer on the team. He's also a great student with a 4.074 GPA.
"Ethan plays club soccer for SSA and has been playing with us for three years," said his coach Daniel Deplanche. "He was actually cut his freshmen year, but he battled back and made the JV program the next year. He improved greatly and made the varsity team his junior and senior years."
"He's strong on the field and in the classroom, and he leads with his play," concluded Coach Deplanche proudly.
