This next Artist of the Week goes to sophomore, Lindsey Magaw, a hard-working student from the Visual Arts department of Allatoona. Her teacher, Mrs. McInerny, says, “Lindsey is hard working, focused, has excellent skills, and a positive attitude.” Lindsey mentions, “I started doing art when I was little; just for fun and such, and then when Covid happened, I started getting into it more. In freshmen year, I ended up really enjoying it and became more serious about it.” Though an extremely gifted artist, she states she wants to do art “not necessarily as a career, but I wouldn’t mind doing it as a hobby later on and doing commissions.” Lindsey’s favorite style of art is, she says, “Doing realism, and I also like doing landscapes, which can be semi-realistic, but not entirely.” She also exclaimed that, “The hardest medium that I’ve worked with is charcoal because it’s so messy and it moves around, and I hated it. It was fun to learn how to use, but actually doing it - horrible. The hardest piece I’ve had to do is what I’m doing right now- Trying to draw my grandfather.” When it comes to challengeds Lindsey’s had to face, she says, “I’ve had a lot of opportunities because my grandma is an art teacher, so I’m able to go to Allatoona where I have really good art teachers. My brother goes to art school, so with my brother doing art, it can be intimidating since he goes to SCAD for it.” Her advice to youth is “not to give up on it because I look back on my old work and I’m like ‘Oh my gosh that’s disgusting and gross,’ so don’t give up just because you don’t like the way it looks and keep trying, and there’s always that ‘ugly stage’, also you can learn from your mistakes. Don’t be afraid to explore different things through art.” Congratulations to Miss Lindsey Magaw on being selected as this week’s Artist of the Week!
