Cobb Rallies Around Family Who Lost Home in Fire Before Christmas

December 19, 2025 — Just before the holiday break, an Allatoona staff member and her family were faced with the heartbreaking reality of losing their home to a fire. Margeaux Strasburger serves as a special education paraprofessional at Allatoona High School, and her children attend Cobb schools.

As families across Cobb put the finishing touches on their holiday shopping, the Strasburger family faces the heartbreaking reality of starting over. But as they began to plan their next steps from a rental house, the Cobb Schools community came together to surprise the family, surrounding them with love, generosity, and a powerful reminder that they are not alone.

The Allatoona, Harrison, and Ford school communities came together to donate money to the Strasburger family during this difficult time, presenting them with a surprise donation on Friday ahead of the holiday break.

Over the last few days, school staff purchased gifts for the Cobb family to replace those lost in the fire. The presents were chosen to help bring happiness and a sense of holiday magic back to the family during a challenging season.

"Supporting Margeaux and her family right now is important to Allatoona because 1. She is family and 2. She has poured so much of herself into supporting our students, often in ways that go unseen. This is a moment for Allatoona to reflect its core values, one of which is community, by surrounding her with the same care, encouragement, and love she so freely gives to others. When we support Margeaux, we affirm that our community values prioritizing people — and that those who care for our students are never alone," said Allatoona Principal Lexie Bostick.

To spread some holiday cheer, K. Mike Whittle Designs professionally decorated the inside of their rental house with lights for Christmas.

As the family continues to receive love and support from Cobb Schools, Harrison High School Assistant Principal Shaleen Kappel shared that the school was inspired to help a family that has supported others and is so deserving of this support.

The thoughtful surprise for the Strasburger family reflects the heart and spirit of Cobb Schools in action.
