National Merit Honors Continue for Cobb Students

July 15, 2026 — The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has announced the final group of 2026 National Merit Scholarship recipients, recognizing additional outstanding students from Cobb Schools for their academic excellence and future achievements.

The July announcement includes the final round of college-sponsored Merit Scholarships, completing the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. In total, approximately 6,500 students nationwide have earned National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $24 million. 

Two Cobb seniors were among the latest recipients: 

Harrison High School

Payton BakerProbable Career Field: Mechanical EngineeringNational Merit University of Georgia Scholarship

Wheeler High School

Dillan VuongProbable Career Field: Mechanical EngineeringNational Merit University of Georgia Scholarship

College-sponsored Merit Scholarships are awarded by participating colleges and universities to National Merit Finalists who plan to attend their institutions. These renewable scholarships provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. 

The latest announcement concludes another remarkable year for Cobb Schools students, who earned recognition throughout the National Merit Scholarship competition with corporate-sponsored National Merit scholarships and college-sponsored scholarships.
