Rocky Mount Cuts the Ribbon on New Library!

April 17, 2026 — At Rocky Mount Elementary, teachers and students officially cut the ribbon on their brand-new library.

The library features updated furniture and a new look that includes more space for students to read and take advantage of all the great resources available to them at school.

"Reading has always been my passion, and now it is contagious through the school, because it's a new space with lots of opportunities for kids to come in and find books. And I think it just reading makes powerful thinkers, so it's a great space for that," said Rocky Mount librarian Glynis McGee.

As students eagerly rushed into their new library, they saw all the features at their disposal.

There are now spaces for students to spend quiet time reading by themselves, more bookshelves to browse and find their favorite reads, and upgraded furniture for classes to sit together and collaborate.

"I was a book nerd when I was in elementary school anyway, so it's amazing to see how times have changed. The nice thing is there are a lot of familiar books here, but the environment is so much better," said Cobb Schools board member David Chastain.

Chastain added that he thinks the students will enjoy these new upgrades in a space that feels more open and comfortable, as he saw firsthand the excitement students already have for it.
