Senior Spotlight: Lassiter's Sonali Limaye

April 23, 2026 — At Lassiter High School, getting from one class to another is a task most would never think about, but for one student, it has been a daily struggle.

Sonali Limaye, a senior, was diagnosed with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP) at an early age.

HSP makes walking a challenge, so Limaye uses a walker to get around the large Lassiter campus.

"I have horrible balance, I have weakness in my legs, and there's no cure for it," said Limaye.

At times, Limaye has to leave class 10 minutes early or arrive late to a class because it takes her a little longer to get to each class.

Despite the extra hurdles throughout the day, the Lassiter senior has excelled in the classroom.

Limaye is involved in the National Honor Society and National English Honor Society, volunteers at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, has completed more than 200 service hours, and is a standout STEM student.

"Even though I have this, I can't let it stop me from succeeding in school," said Limaye.

As graduation approaches, she's both excited and nervous about what's next.

She'll miss her friends and teachers who helped make Lassiter memorable, but is proud of the hard work it took to earn her diploma.

"Just keep pushing on through, even when it feels like it's really tough and you want to give up, keep going. The people who matter, who will always help you, will be there. And you've got this," said Limaye on advice she would give other students.

Limaye will attend the University of Georgia next year, where she will major in Biology.
