January 28, 2026 — Week after week, Cobb's student-athletes impress with their ability to perform in the classroom and in their sport. Time management and deliberate planning are necessary to balance the preparation, practice, competition, and classwork they willingly undertake. Athletes of the Week (AOW) like Campbell's Patrick Curry and Hillgrove's Aeris Macon are proof that all the hard work pays off.

Patrick is a state-qualified wrestler for the Spartans, and Aeris is a key player on the Lady Hawks basketball team.

Patrick Curry, Wrestling, Campbell

In a match against Lassiter, Patrick earned his 100th career varsity win. Having never wrestled before high school, he is an excellent example of the success that is possible when you put in extra work and trust the process. He is the county runner-up and has qualified for the state tournament. Patrick is a great teammate who can lighten the mood by making his teammates laugh, but he also brings the energy when it's needed.

"Patrick is a fierce competitor who has the fire to win. He consistently scores points for us, which makes him invaluable to our 20-4 record this year," said his coach, Rudolph Armocida. “His teammates see him as the goal for them to aim for because he raises the level of the guys in the room. We are very proud of him!”

That pride is shared by Campbell’s athletic leadership, who point to Patrick’s character and work ethic as defining qualities of the Spartan program.

“Campbell loves to see our students excelling and working hard; that is the Spartan spirit!” commented Athletic Director Phillip Howard. “I love when students like Patrick make my job easier by being great role models to the underclassmen. This award is well-deserved. I wish I had 300 more Spartans just like him!”

Athlete of the Week Patrick Curry

Aeris Macon, Basketball, Hillgrove

A great teammate and a consistent leader for the Lady Hawks, Aeris has helped her team tally a 17-4 record so far this season. The Hawks are in the driver's seat to win Region 3-6A and claim a top seed in the GHSA playoffs. Aeris is also a high-performing student, with a 4.28 GPA and active participation in the National Honor Society and Sources of Strength. She worked very hard this season to recover from a knee injury that kept her out of summer basketball. She has returned to the court even better, tougher mentally, and dependably consistent in her game on offense and defense. She averages 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game.

"Aeris is the glue to our team. She shows up every day and works hard," said her coach, Sue Milam, proudly. "We count on her performance in the paint, not just as a scorer but as a rebounder and shot blocker. She is supportive and encouraging of her teammates."

Her work ethic has translated into steady progress season after season.

"Over the last three years, Aeris has made significant improvements in her game. Last year, she began to establish her presence in the paint with some really big performances, and this season she has performed even better. She is responsible, dependable, and mature, and we're so glad she's a Hillgrove Hawk!" Coach Milam concluded about her Athlete of the Week.

Athlete of the Week Aeris Macon

Congratulations to this week's outstanding AOW recipients. Well done, Patrick and Aeris! Thank you also to Campbell and Hillgrove for supporting these hardworking and high-performing student-athletes!
